“Light is the first element of design; without it there is no color, form, or texture.”
– Thomas E. Farin.
As an interior designer, one of my favorite elements when designing a space is selecting unique lighting elements to incorporate into the design. A popular trend in lighting is the use of a light fixture as an art piece in a room. Recently, I had the honor to work with the creative team at Cameron Design House in London to create a custom light fixture for an artful kitchen that we designed for the Holiday House Showhouse 2018 in NYC.
Cameron Design House is an award-winning British bespoke sculptural lighting company based in London. Founded by Ian Cameron in 2014, Cameron Design House has become synonymous with unique, contemporary design and refined craftsmanship. Every piece is conceived and hand crafted in their studio workshop located in the leafy residential borough of St John’s Wood, North London. Working together on this project was the perfect fit, because Cameron Design House is as passionate about creating statement lighting pieces as I am. Everything is handmade at their London studio, and they focus on the most intricate of details. Every piece is produced to the highest quality from the design to manufacturing process.
I worked and finalized all the details with the creative team at Cameron Design for the custom Vesanto light fixture I had envisioned. With only four weeks to complete the task until we needed to install the fixture, I immediately went looking for a back up. I truly could not believe that they would be able to create the piece in such a short period of time. Not only did they ship the Vesanto light fixture on time, but I also got to watch the Creative Director, Ian Cameron, and the Managing Director, Simeon Chilvers, install the Vesanto light themselves over the kitchen island at Holiday House. It was such a tight installation schedule that we actually installed the Vesanto at 1am in the morning. Now that’s dedication!
The light was even more beautiful then I could imagine, and it was a perfect fit for our modern kitchen design. Together we were a great team, and I was so happy to find out that they felt the same enthusiasm and excitement for the project, too.
“At Cameron Design House we are we were over the moon when Melanie Roy approached us to design a piece in the kitchen space at Holiday House last October. We worked closely with the team to design our Vesanto pendant in a polished nickel finish to work within the space beautifully and we delighted with the outcome!” Ian Cameron, Creative Director of Cameron Design House.
I am looking forward to creating more exquisite light fixtures with the brilliant team at Cameron Design House!
